Il avait 77 ans. Victorieux \u00e0 Monaco en 1972, membre de la fameuse team Matra\u2026 Beltoise \u00e9tait depuis sa retraite sportive un militant actif &nbsp;pour une s\u00e9curit\u00e9 routi\u00e8re moins st\u00e9r\u00e9otyp\u00e9e dans son \u00e9cole de conduite \u00e0 Trappes. Il disait, \u00ab<em style=\"background-color: initial;\"> ce n\u2019est pas l\u2019exc\u00e8s de vitesse qui tue, c\u2019est la vitesse excessive<\/em> \u00bb.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Finalement, pour beaucoup de pilotes de ces ann\u00e9es-l\u00e0, conna\u00eetre une mort relativement douce entour\u00e9 de sa famille et non lors d\u2019un crash sur un circuit est une chance. Jean-Pierre Beltoise manqua de se faire tuer en 1971 sur les 1 000 km de Buenos Aires. Il fut ravag\u00e9 par la mort de son beau-fr\u00e8re, Fran\u00e7ois Cevert, en 1973. Pilote de course rimait alors avec danger et une forte probabilit\u00e9 de mourir.<\/p>\n<h2>Des courses embl\u00e9matiques, un imposant palmar\u00e8s<\/h2>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.autosphere.fr\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/11\/26072ee46154ddcbeaccf5c3fa47026e.jpg\"><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Jean-Pierre Beltoise n\u2019a pas le plus grand palmar\u00e8s du sport automobile fran\u00e7ais. Mais le natif de Boulogne-Billancourt (23 avril 1937) a gagn\u00e9 dans diverses cat\u00e9gories. En moto, o\u00f9 il d\u00e9buta (11 titres nationaux entre 1961 et 1964), puis en course de c\u00f4te, en Formule 3, en Formule 2, en Formule 1 (86 GP et une victoire \u00e0 Monaco en 1972). Il a aussi disput\u00e9 des courses mythiques comme les 1 000 kilom\u00e8tres de Paris, de Buenos Aires, du N\u00fcrburgring, d\u2019Imola et participa 14 fois aux 24 Heures du Mans. De ces ann\u00e9es-l\u00e0, reste cette c\u00e9l\u00e8bre photo du Team Matra. De gauche \u00e0 droite : Henri Pescarolo, Johnny Servoz-Gavin, Jean-Pierre Beltoise et Jackie Stewart.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2>Une autre vision de la s\u00e9curit\u00e9 routi\u00e8re<\/h2>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Retir\u00e9 des circuits dans les ann\u00e9es 1980 apr\u00e8s avoir fait du SuperTourisme avec Peugeot, Jean-Pierre Beltoise fonda en 1985 sa m\u00e9thode \u00ab conduire juste \u00bb. Une m\u00e9thode qui vise \u00e0 expliquer les dangers de la circulation et acqu\u00e9rir un comportement routier aussi responsable qu\u2019efficace. Regrettant de ne jamais \u00eatre consult\u00e9 sur le sujet, fustigeant la politique r\u00e9pressive des diff\u00e9rents gouvernements, Beltoise expliquait que \u00ab<em style=\"background-color: initial;\"> nous n\u2019apprenons pas \u00e0 bien conduire, encore moins \u00e0 bien nous comporter, ou \u00e0 respecter les autres automobilistes <\/em>\u00bb. \u00ab<em style=\"background-color: initial;\"> Quelle exp\u00e9rience du freinage d\u2019urgence, de la conduite de nuit, de la perte d\u2019adh\u00e9rence, de la n\u00e9cessit\u00e9 d\u2019observer loin devant, d\u2019imaginer que le pire peut se produire, ou consid\u00e9rer son temps de r\u00e9action pour d\u00e9finir la bonne distance de s\u00e9curit\u00e9\u2026 En revanche on apprend \u00e0 revendiquer sans se soucier du contexte : \u2018\u2019Jai priorit\u00e9\u2019\u2019, c\u2019est donc \u00e0 moi de passer et, si n\u00e9cessaire, je force le passage <\/em>\u00bb.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Sur la question des limitations de vitesse, Jean-Pierre Beltoise affichait du bon sens face \u00e0 la remise en question syst\u00e9matique par les politiques : \u00ab<em> Je ne pr\u00eache pas pour le non respect des limitations de vitesse. Simplement, je pense qu\u2019il faut savoir adapter sa conduite \u00e0 l\u2019environnement en fonction de sa propre exp\u00e9rience\u2026 Pour moi, l\u2019assassin en puissance n\u2019est pas le conducteur vigilant, qui d\u00e9passe la limitation de vitesse avec une grosse cylindr\u00e9e sur une route d\u00e9gag\u00e9e et de bonnes conditions m\u00e9t\u00e9o, mais l\u2019inconscient qui, en vous emp\u00eachant de doubler ou en vous serrant de pr\u00e8s avec beaucoup d\u2019agressivit\u00e9 mal plac\u00e9e, met en danger la vie des autres <\/em>\u00bb.
